Description

Sister Margherita Marchione is credited with bringing about a more complete and honest portrait of Pope Pius XII and the Catholic Church during the difficult and tragic years of the Second World War. With the numerous sources given in this book, many of them newly discovered, Margherita Marchione completes her research in defense of  Pope Pius XII. The Holy Father’s sanctity is revealed in the many citations offered through documents of World War II, in the testimonials of his contemporaries, and in the acknowledgments of Jews and Catholics saved during the Holocaust. The late John Cardinal O’Connor wrote that Sister Marchione has “combined solid historical research with fascinating anecdotal material to shed light on the generous and often sacrificial response of the Church to the horrendous plight of the Jews in Italy during the Holocaust.”
