Description

Few people have the privilege of entering the Papal Apartments. The head of the Papal Household, Archbishop Romeo Panciroli, put together a lavish book full of museum-quality photographs that display the artwork and rooms of the public section of the Papal Apartments. Archbishop Panciroli, predecessor of Joaquin Navarro Valls, was the chief spokesman for Popes Paul VI, John Paul I, and John Paul II and was familiar with the quarters of the Holy Father.  It is in this suite inside the Apostolic Palace where heads of state and other official visitors are received by the Pope. Stepping inside these pages, the reader will explore the beauty and grandeur of the masterpieces that adorn the magnificent structure. The reader will be fascinated by the very same pieces studied by kings, queens, and presidents while waiting to have a private audience with the Holy Father. Artists including Bramante, Raphael, Bernini, Della Robbia, El Grecco, and of course, Michelangelo, have left their “indelible marks of inspiration and faith” on the walls and ceilings of each sala, or room. Text includes a history of the Papal Apartments, Blessed John Paul II’s Letter to Artists, and an index of the artists and their works.
