Welcoming Accommodations Run by Religious Orders

Many of our readers regularly ask for a list of reasonably inexpensive and convenient places to stay in the Eternal City. We offer this updated list every two years or so for our readers. The list is not exhaustive. It includes some of the hotels and pensions already reviewed in these columns, and some which we hope to evaluate in the future. Of special interest are the institutions run by religious which were detailed in earlier issues of the magazine. Restaurants will be dealt with in the next number of the magazine. To reach the places mentioned below by phone or fax, please remember that all the numbers must be prefixed by (011) when calling from the USA and (00) when calling from England. Please also bear in mind that the zero in the local code 06 (the city code for Rome) must be used both when dialing from outside and from within Rome. Not all of the institutions speak English. Pensions and Small Hotels Run By Religious in Rome

The visitor to Rome should be aware that these pensions vary in the conditions they offer. Some offer all meals, others only bed and breakfast. Some require their guests to be back at a certain time in the evening (e.g., 11 p.m.), while others will make arrangements so that guests can be out later. Pilgrims and tourists should check out such details when they make a reservation. The price of some of the following pensions is less than 100 Euro ($145) per person for bed and breakfast.
